Two Injured in Friday Night Crash Near Canton

A motorcycle collided with a minivan on Lower Bethany Road north of Canton Friday night.

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident Friday night in northern Cherokee County.  According to the Georgia State Patrol, the accident happened around 8:40 p.m. Friday on Lower Bethany Road near Hornage Road north of Canton in the Clayton community.  A motorcycle traveling southbound on Lower Bethany Road veered into the northbound lane and struck a Chrysler Town and Country minivan on the left side of the vehicle. Trooper Brown (who did not want to provide his first name) said the driver of the motorcycle suffered head and leg injuries. "As far as I know there was nothing life threatening at the time," he said of the motorcycle driver's injuries. He was transported to Atlanta Medical Center where he was listed in stable …

UPDATE: Driver Killed on 575 in Sunday Afternoon Accident Identified

The driver was the only person involved in the accident.

UPDATE (11:40 a.m.): The Georgia State Patrol has identified the driver of the gold Ford Explorer as 28-year-old Luca Garovi of Orcutt, CA.  ORIGINAL STORY: The driver of a Ford Explorer was killed on Interstate 575 northbound between Canton and Ball Ground in a single-vehicle accident on Sunday afternoon, authorities say. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the Explorer left the right side of the roadway at Bethany Road and struck a bridge pillar, killing the driver. The Georgia State Patrol has yet to contact the driver's next of kin, who are currently out of the country. Funeral Set For Waleska Woman Killed in Crash

Friends and family will say goodbye Cortney Jade King on Tuesday.

The Waleska woman who died in a one-car accident Saturday afternoon will be laid to rest tomorrow. Funeral services are planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel inside South Canton Funeral Home for Cortney Jade King, 24, who died from injuries she suffered in a one-car accident along Highway 108/Fincher Road near Ammons Road just east of Waleska.  She will be buried at Mt. Olive Baptist Church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family is asking contributions be made to the funeral home to help with expenses. Waleska Woman Dies, Child Suffers Minor Injuries in Wreck

Cortney Jade King was traveling with her five-year-old niece Saturday afternoon when her car ran off the road and hit several trees.

A one-vehicle accident claimed the life of a Waleska woman early Saturday afternoon, but spared the life of a child passenger.  The Georgia State Patrol responded to a single car crash around 1:35 p.m. on Highway 108/Fincher Road near Ammons Road east of Waleska where a 2004 Volkswagen New Beetle had run off the road and hit several trees. GSP Spokesperson Gordy Wright said the driver, identified as 24-year-old Cortney Jade King, was traveling eastbound when her vehicle ran off the road. Wright said King over-corrected, left the roadway and hit several trees. King, who was not wearing her seat belt, died at the scene from her injuries. Six Traffic Deaths Reported in Georgia During New Year's Holiday

The Georgia State Patrol reported its troopers investigated 586 accidents as of daybreak today, Jan. 2.

  Georgia State Troopers have investigated more crashes during this New Year's holiday than last year, with injuries rising above New Year's 2012 levels, and almost as many deaths – six so far this year, compared to seven last year . The GSP investigated three of the fatal traffic accidents, with local agencies investigating the other three. Troopers have investigated 585 accidents as of daybreak today, Jan. 1, which included 266 injuries and three deaths. During last year's entire 102-hour holiday, the Department of Public Safety investigated 296 accidents. Those accidents included 172 injuries and 7 deaths. Cherokee Resident Killed In Early Morning Accident

The man, identified as 19-year-old Brandon Paul Mitcheltree, was fatally hit Thursday morning while walking along East Cherokee Drive.

A pedestrian was hit and killed Thursday morning along one of Cherokee County's busiest thoroughfares. Brandon Paul Mitcheltree, 19, of Canton, was fatally struck this morning shortly before 7 a.m. while walking along East Cherokee Drive near Berry Patch Road, Georgia State Patrol Spokesperson Gordy Wright said.  State troopers responded to the scene of the accident at 6:51 a.m., which occurred near the Hickory Flat community.   Mitcheltree was walking southbound with traffic in the travel lane when a PT Cruiser, driven by Joseph Michael Homesley, 21 of Canton, rounded a curve and hit Mitchelpree, Wright added. Mitcheltree died at the scene.  Homesley did not see Mitcheltree in the roadway. UPDATED: 17 Fatalties Reported in Christmas Holiday Traffic

Another traffic fatality has been reported by the Georgia State Patrol, whose troopers investigated 685 crashes with 300 injuries.

Seventeen traffic deaths were reported in the 102-hour Christmas holiday travel period,which began Friday at 6 p.m. and ended at midnight, Christmas Day, according to the Georgia State Patrol. There were 685 crashes with 300 injuries and 11 deaths investigated by the Georgia State Patrol (GSP). Other agencies have reported six traffic fatalities, including a fatal two-car collision in Smyrna just before midnight on Monday that claimed the life of a Marietta woman and a one-car accident in Duluth that claimed that driver's life on Christmas Day. Eight people were killed last year in Georgia traffic crashes that occurred between Christmas and New Years Day.

In 2011, eight people were killed in traffic crashes in Georgia between Christmas and New Years Day and there were 401 people were arrested for driving under the influence. There is no question that the holiday season is one of the busiest times of the year, from shopping for that perfect gift to attending countless celebrations with family, friends and co-workers.  This year the Christmas holiday travel period started 6 p.m. on Friday and will end Tuesday night, Dec. 25. The New Year’s holiday period begins Friday, Dec. 28 at 6 p.m. and ends Tuesday night, Jan. 1, 2013. Both holiday periods are 102-hours long. 19 Die in Traffic Accidents over the Thanksgiving Holiday

Speed, alcohol or failure to wear a seat belt are blamed in almost all of the fatal crashes.

The 102-hour Thanksgiving holiday travel period ended at midnight with 19 traffic fatalities reported across the state. The Georgia State Patrol investigated 11 of the 19 fatal crashes that occurred between 6 p.m. Wednesday and midnight. The 19 traffic fatalities is one more than in 2011. State troopers investigated a total of 622 traffic crashes during the period that resulted in 263 injuries. Of the 11 traffic deaths investigated by troopers, alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in 4 of the crashes, and 7 of the victims were not using seat belts. There was one fatal pedestrian collision investigated by troopers. Local law enforcement agencies investigated eight of the fatal crashes, including a single-vehicle accident in Forsyth…
