Cherokee Leaders "Very Pleased" With Property Value Jump

After years of managing declining property tax revenue, the upswing is welcome news for Cherokee leaders.

The news of an increase in Cherokee County property tax values is not falling on deaf ears among local leaders. The county learned last week that its gross tax digest grew to nearly $7.4 billion in 2013, up from $7.2 billion in 2012. Cherokee County Chief Appraiser John Adams said after exemptions, the total net taxable digest is up by 3 percent for the county and up 2.8 percent for the school portion of property taxes. County Commission Chair Buzz Ahrens said he was "very pleased" with the initial results overall. The county was hoping to see either a 1 or 2 percent increase in property values, "so the out-of-the box 3 percent is a great message and starting point." He says “cycling is a great way to get into shape because it can be used as aerobic exercise for a hard workout or a toning tool.” Hall says, “I keep coming back to cycling because of the recreation, scenery and friendships that I have formed over decades. I love the friction of my tires on the roadway, the challenge of the next hill regardless of grade, and the beauty that surrounds me as I exercise. The gym or spin class really just feels like work, not fun.” 2. Beginners: Start Slow …

Should Chip Rogers Have Presided Over Republican Convention?

The former state senator and current Georgia Public Broadcasting employee was asked to serve as the chair of the 11th Congressional District convention held in Marietta over the weekend.

A former Georgia state senator made a scheduled appearance into the political arena over the weekend.  Former Sen. Chip Rogers of Woodstock served as the convention chair of the 2013 Georgia Republican Party 11th Congressional District Convention held at Roswell Street Baptist Church in Marietta on Saturday.  Rogers received many accolades from Republicans in the district, and several folks attending the convention expressed their feelings on the former senator's Facebook profile.  "Kudos to Chip Rogers for his masterful chairmanship at yesterday's District Convention," wrote former Cherokee County Republican Party Chair Bob Rugg in the Cherokee's Republican Party Facebook group wall. "The task is always made more difficult when attempting…

Frankly, Mr. Rogers is the ideal person to chair a Republican Convention. He's a sanctimonious right wing jerk who is fixated on conspiracy theories and who has a tax payer financed job to go along with the tax payer financed bailout of one of his bad investments. By all means Rogers should chair every GOP event that comes along. He reminds them that they will ultimately be what he is now: out of…   more ›
