The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for today and a freeze warning for tonight.
Holly Springs and Hickory Flat are under a wind advisory until 6 p.m. today. But though the winds will slow, the weather will only get colder as a freeze warning goes into effect at 2 a.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service has issued the freeze warning and wind advisory for all of North and Central Georgia. Winds are out of the west at 15-25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph. These winds could knock medium to large limbs from trees and even blow down weak or drought stressed trees. The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory through Wednesday, and says isolated thunderstorms and tornadoes are possible.
Hold onto your hats, it's getting windy out there, so windy that the National Weather Service has put out a wind advisory from 1 p.m. today to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Wind will increase from west to east through late this afternoon. The wind has started out from the southwest at 15 to 25 mph. Gusts will be up to 40 mph in heavier showers, which also are a possibility. The southwest winds have made that 59 degree lunchtime temperature seem a little warmer, but by Wednesday the wind will be out of the west with continued gusts to 40 mph. Severe storms and heavy rainfall are possible as a strong storm system and cold front move across north and central Georgia.
Strong winds are expected to develop as a storm system and cold front move into the Holly Springs area Tuesday night and Wednesday. In effect 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, a wind advisory for north and central Georgia, including Cherokee County, warns of 15 to 25 mph winds with gusts up to 35 mph, which make driving difficult. "Showers and a few thunderstorms will accompany these winds, but it should be noted that very strong winds will be possible outside of any shower or thunderstorm activity as well," the advisory says. As the pouring rain this morning showed us it's a wet day and expect it to stay that way. The National Weather Service forecast for Holly Springs and Hickory Flat put the chance for rain at 100 percent this afternoon, dropping to 40 percent tonight. Rainfall amounts between a quarter and a half of an inch are possible. It will get pretty cool tonight, with a low around 29. Rain won't be a problem, but wind will.
