Cherokee To Celebrate Safe Kids Day in May

Safe Kids Cherokee County will hold the festival in Canton and will focus on various aspects of child safety.

Safe Kids Cherokee County along with Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and Safe Kids Worldwide, will host its first Safe Kids Day event in Canton. The festival will be held Saturday May 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m at Super Target in the Canton Marketplace shopping center. The event will link families with corporate partners and other supporters to raise awareness of Safe Kids' efforts to prevent injuries to children.  When a child dies or is seriously injured the lives of families and entire communities are changed forever. Safe Kids Cherokee Awarded Grant

The Child Passenger Safety Mini-Grant will be used by Safe Kids Cherokee County to educate less fortunate families on child passenger safety.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services was awarded the 2013 Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Mini-Grant by the Georgia Department of Public Health's Office of Injury Prevention. The agency, along with Safe Kids Cherokee County, will use the mini-grant and work together to provide car seats and education to financially eligible families in Cherokee County. The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and the Maternal and Child Health Program "fund the grant to help ensure Georgia’s children are safe while riding in motor vehicles," Cherokee Fire said in a press release.   Since 2007, Cherokee Fire states at least 229 children in Georgia who were involved in crashes were saved from serious injury or death by car seats, booster seats and …

Safe Kids Cherokee Plans Moonlight Madness

The organization will be in Towne Lake later this month.

An organization dedicated to keeping kids safe will once again bring its take on trick or treating to children in Cherokee County. Safe Kids Cherokee County will host their annual Moonlight Madness event at Kroger stores throughout the county. The organization will set up shop at three Kroger stores: 4-7p.m. Oct. 30 at 2295 Towne Lake Parkway in Towne Lake; 5-8 p.m. Oct. 25 at 6766 Hickory Flat Highway in Hickory Flat; and 5-8 p.m. Oct. 29 at 8020 Cumming Highway in Macedonia.  “This event gives area children an opportunity to have fun, and at the same time, learn important safety tips," said Chad Arp, coordinator Safe Kids Cherokee County.
