More county residents found jobs in April.
The unemployment rate in Cherokee County dropped to near six percent in April, a fall of four tenths of a percent. Almost 1,000 more county residents were working than in the previous month. The 6.2 percent unemployment rate is one of the lowest in the state, especially when comparing counties with at least 25,000 people in the labor force. Of the 114,994 people in the Cherokee County labor force, 7,122 were unemployed in April. A year ago the unemployment rate was up to 7.1 percent. Just to the south, Cobb County's jobless rate dipped below seven percent, falling three tenths of a percent in a month. The Georgia Department of Labor wants to fill more than 500 job open job positions for the new outlet mall .
The Georgia Department of Labor will soon arrive in Canton to help the new Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta fill hundreds of vacant job positions. Representatives from stores such as Adidas, Brooks Brothers, Carters/Oshkosh, Cole Haan and CorningWare Corelle will be at the Cherokee Conference Center on May 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. looking for new workers for their new locations at the outlet mall in Woodstock. The Woodstock outlet mall, which will open in July, 2013, is looking to fill around 500 full-time and part-time positions, from management to sales associates and stock clerks. More jobs and fewer layoffs in most metro Atlanta counties helped push the state's unemployment rate down to 8.4 percent, it's lowest since December 2008.
The Georgia Department of Labor announced today that Georgia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dipped to 8.4 percent in March, the lowest rate since December 2008. The rate declined from 8.6 percent in February because of an increase in the number of jobs and fewer new layoffs. The rate was down from 9.1 percent in March a year ago. “Georgia employers created 23,700 jobs last month, which is one of the best job growth numbers we’ve had in March for almost a decade,” said State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler. “The growth was in several industries, led by leisure and hospitality and professional and business services.” Additional growth came in trade, transportation and warehousing, construction and local government. The expo will feature employers who are currently hiring, as well as there to discuss possible future employment opportunities with the job seekers. The Georgia Department of Labor says the jobless rate dropped two-tenths of a percent in February.
Cherokee County's unemployment rate continued its downward trend last month. The rate in February dropped to 6.9 percent, down a hair from 7.1 percent in January and 7.8 in February 2012. Out of the county's 115,182 workers, 7,914 went without jobs last month, which is less than were counted as unemployed in January and February 2012. Cherokee's rate is the second lowest in the region, just behind Forsyth's rate of 6.4 percent. Local unemployment rate figures won't be released for another week, but the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the state dipped to 8.6 percent in February, the lowest rate since January 2009, according to the Georgia Department of Labor. The rate was down one-tenth of a percentage point from 8.7 percent in January and six-tenths of a percentage point from 9.2 percent in February a year ago, the department announced in a release today.
