The Cherokee County Elections and Voter Registration Office in downtown Canton has seen steady traffic of voters casting their ballots ahead of Tuesday's special election. As of midday on Thursday, 730 people have voted in the election, Cherokee County Elections Supervisor Janet Munda told Patch. That's compared to more than 500 people in Milton and other north Fulton communities who have voted in the special election to fill the Georgia Senate District 21 seat. Munda said 100 people alone voted at the office on Wednesday. "It’s better than what I thought it would be," she said of the turnout so far. A little more than 300 people have cast ballots ahead of the Jan. 8, 2013, special election.
While the Cherokee County Elections and Voter Registration office hasn't seen much early voting traffic, local officials are still "impressed" with the turnout so far. As of Friday, 310 voters had cast ballots ahead of the Jan. 8, 2013, special election to fill both the Georgia House District 21 and Georgia Senate District 21 seats. Elections Supervisor Janet Munda said she's predicting a five percent turnout overall for the election, but added she's "more impressed and surprised with the turnout" so far. Starting today, voters can cast their ballots ahead of the Jan. 8, 2013, special election. Early voting to fill the state House District 21 and Senate District 21 seats will be held at the Stone Elections Building in downtown Canton. Voting will be held each day through Friday between 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will resume Dec. 27-28, on Dec. 31 and Jan. 2-4, 2013, during those same hours. Advanced voting ends today at 7 p.m. ahead of the Nov. 6 general election.
Cherokee County residents who wanted to vote early but haven't found the time have one more day to cast their ballot ahead of the Nov. 6 general election. Today is the last day Cherokee County residents can participate in advanced voting. Advanced voting locations will be open between 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. today to allow voters to cast their ballots. No voting will be held on Monday and polls will open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday for the general election. Officials are "excited" about the high turnout.
UPDATE 10:24 a.m.: Saturday brought out thousands of voters in Cherokee. The total number of voters who cast ballots on Saturday were: Early voting has brought out more than 11,000 registered voters taking part in the electoral process. As of Friday, about 11,970 voters have cast ballots ahead of the Nov. 6 general election. Elections Supervisor Janet Munda said the elections office in Canton saw on average 1,200 voters per day last week. "We are very excited,” said Elections Supervisor Janet Munda. Cherokee County residents who didn't get a chance to vote this week will have today to do so. The Albert Stone Elections Office at 400 East Main Street in downtown Canton and three other libraries will be open today between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. to allow voters to cast their ballots ahead of the Nov. 6 general election. Along with voting in Canton, residents will also be allowed to cast their ballot at the Ball Ground, Hickory Flat, Rose Creek and Woodstock Public Libraries today. Voters in Holly Springs and Hickory Flat can avoid any pretense of being labeled undecided in the November General Election by voting as early as today. The Cherokee County Elections and Voter Registration office is encouraging registered voters to cast their ballots early for the General Election. Early voting for the Aug. 21 runoff between Post 2 Commissioner Jim Hubbard and former Cherokee County Fire Chief Ray Gunnin begins today. A controversial transportation referendum and a number of competitive local races drove more early voters to the polls this year than four years ago, Cherokee's director of elections and voter registration said Friday. When the early voting period that began July 9 closed Friday night, 12,073 of the county's 139,039 registered voters had cast ballots in person.
