Big name national retailers take the spotlight on Black Friday as their deep price cuts pull in shoppers in droves. What about those mom-and-pop businesses all over Woodstock and beyond that are the backbone of America’s economy? Just when do they get their day? That’s basically the question that was asked back in 2010 when the concept of Small Business Saturday was born. Small Business Saturday is “a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities,” the U.S. Small Business Administration explains on its website. Residents who shop in downtown Woodstock could be eligible to receive a $100 gift certificate. The Woodstock Visitor's Center at Dean's Store has started a promotion in which for every $10 a shopper spends at a downtown business on Friday or Saturday, they can enter to win a drawing for its $100 Downtown Dollars Gift Certificate. To enter the contest, shoppers can bring a receipt from any purchase made on both days to the visitor's center on Friday or Saturday. As an example, if a shopper spends $50, that person will be entered five times into the drawing. The visitor's center will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the contest and only purchases made at stores or restaurants in downtown Woodstock are eligible to be entered. The contest…
