Parrot, Veggies, Small Business in Deep Freeze

Subfreezing weather puts the chill on the new Cherokee Market.

Peanut, 45, is cold. The yellow-necked parrot has spent the better part of this morning squawking and talking to let you know how unhappy he is with this weather. Even though he has his own space heater in the back of the newly opened Cherokee Market on Cumming Highway, the temperature in the 100-year-old building barely reaches 32 degrees. After a sudden cold snap in Cherokee County left residents bundled and covered, the few who rely on agriculture and produce are left to make due with limited customers and vegetables that can survive cold temperatures.
