Weekend Rain Will Soak Holly Springs

Cherokee County and the north Georgia area is expected to get about two inches of rain through Monday.

Don't get too comfortable with those sunny skies and mild temperatures, Holly Springs.  The weekend is slated to bring clouds and rain to finish out the rest of the week. A "shortwave" will move across Georgia over the weekend and "will bring the return of showers and thunderstorms to north and central Georgia for the weekend into the early work week," according to the National Weather Service's Forecast Office in Peachtree City.  The service predicts the heaviest amount of rain could fall Saturday night and into Sunday morning, with total rainfall amounts reaching between two and two-and-a-half inches through Monday across north Georgia. Holly Springs' forecast for the weekend calls for Friday to remain sunny and highs will reach 75. …

Severe Storms To Move into Holly Springs Thursday

High winds, lightning and a chance of an isolated tornado are expected to move into the area Thursday afternoon.

Holly Springs and Hickory Flat residents will be greeted with a chance of severe storms in the midst of rush hour traffic on Thursday. Heavy rains, high winds and a chance of tornadoes will move into Cherokee County and northern Georgia Thursday afternoon, according to a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service. "A cold front will approach the state on Thursday (and) then move across the state Thursday night," NWS states. "Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop along and ahead of the front, and confidence continues to increase that isolated severe storms will accompany this frontal system." A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring or will occur within 24 hours, according to the NWS.

Cherokee County is among 37 counties are under a Red Flag Warning through 8 p.m. issued by the National Weather Service out of Peachtree City. Twenty Percent Chance of Snow Thursday Night For Holly Springs

The National Weather Service gives Holly Springs and Cherokee County a slight chance of snow as the low Thursday dips to 33.

High temps in the 60s won't last, as Wednesday ushers in a freeze watch covering north Georgia, including Holly Springs and Cherokee County. In effect late Wednesday night through early Thursday morning, it warns of lows in the mid 20s to mid 30s, which could damage vegetation, according to the National Weather Service. Wednesday's high temp is expected to reach 61, but Thursday night holds a slight chance of rain and snow. NWS gives Holly Springs a 20 percent chance of snow Thursday night, according to the forecast, which puts the low around 35. Holly Springs and Hickory Flat will see strong, possibly severe thunderstorms today and will last into tonight.

Heavy Rain Returns To Holly Springs on Monday

Sunday's sunshine and mild temperatures will be short-lived as rain is expected to return to the area tomorrow.

Heavy rain is expected to return to Holly Springs and Hickory Flat on Monday and last through Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.  The rain is expected to arrive in Holly Springs on Monday, as a strong storm system will arrive in the area, bringing showers starting mostly after 4 p.m, according to Holly Springs and Hickory Flat's seven day forecast. Monday's high temperature will hover around 46 degrees, with lows dipping to 41 degrees. Georgia Tornadoes Cause $75 Million in Damage

Nearly 500 homes and commercial properties in Bartow County were damaged as a result of the EF-3 that ripped through Adairsville and continued to Gordon County.

Tornadoes that struck Georgia on Wednesday caused an estimated $75 million in insured losses, Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens said. "That figure will rise as new claims are reported," Hudgens said in a release. "Damage to the Daiki Corporation manufacturing plant in Adarisville was quite extensive." A final count late Thursday indicated 442 residential structures and 30 commercial properties—not individual businesses—in Bartow County were damaged, The Daily Tribune News reports. Twenty-two homes and six commercial properties were completely destroyed. Cherokee County was spared damage from Wednesday's tornadoes, but heavy rains did cause the temporary closures of several roads throughout the county.

Cherokee County Spared Severe Weather Damage

However, central Cherokee County, including Canton, bore the brunt of the storms, including flooding.

Aside from some localized flooding, Cherokee County walked away unscathed as a slew of storms barrelled through the metro Atlanta area on Wednesday. The county has suffered no damage from severe storms, said Robby Westbrook, director of the Cherokee Sheriff's Office of Homeland Security-Emergency Management. "We did have several streets that were flooded," he added. The county was hit with both severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings throughout the day. Freezing Precipitation 'Likely' on Friday for Holly Springs

The frozen stuff could begin overnight Thursday, forecasts say.

  The threat of winter weather for Holly Springs is looming again. According to the National Weather Service, there is a "chance" of freezing rain overnight Thursday and "likely" for Friday before 4 p.m. Also, winds could reach 15 mph. The low Thursday night is forecast to be about 28 degrees. An Arctic air mass and moisture moving into the area is blamed.
