Third Place for Lady Chiefs

Final score: Sequoyah 56, East Jackson 42

It was not the goal the team set for themselves, but after a heartbreaking loss in the semi-finals to Apalachee, the Sequoyah Lady Chiefs easily pulled away from the host school to take the third place game in the Windslinger Holiday Classic. Leading the way was senior guards, Emily Caine who had 14 points and Lisa Mitchell who added 12. Handling the bulk of the work in the paint was sophomore Maggie Hartman who added 9 points and 11 rebounds in the victory. The win improves their record to 5 – 9, but still with a 2 – 1 region record and starting to play to their potential as the region schedule begins in earnest as the new year dawns. Lady Chiefs Come Up Short

Final score: Apalachee 48, Sequoyah 47

In the WingSlinger Classic at East Jackson High School, Sequoyah got out of the gate slowly but roared back with a chance to win in the end. After being outscored 9-3 after one quarter, Sequoyah, missing top rebounder and inside threat, Brittnee Jones due to injury, the senior guard trio of Emily Caine, Lisa Mitchell and Precious Lane picked up the pace on offense to close the gap to 21-18 at halftime. The comeback was complete in fourth with a chance for Sequoyah to win it at the free throw line, but as fate would have it, the Lady Chiefs missed four free throws in the final six seconds to lose 48-47. Sequoyah was led by Caine with 14 points, Mitchell had 12 and Lane added 11 in the loss. The Lady Chiefs return to action tomorrow night …

The two teams covered by Holly Springs Patch faced off at Creekview Saturday night.

The Creekview varsity girls defeated the Sequoyah Lady Chiefs, 34-28.
