A series of basketball games will be organized between the two entities, which will raise proceeds to help county fire stations.
Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services fire fighters and Cherokee County School District faculty members will come together on the basketball court for a good cause. The Cherokee County Council of PTA is organizing six basketball games in which teams will compete in a game of hoops to raise funds. Those proceeds would fire stations purchase Apple iPads embedded with GPS capabilities that will allow them to arrive sooner to scenes of fires, said Council President Adam Belanger. "We’re constantly reacting to an issue or problem, issue or tragedy," he said. "When this came to our attention, this was our chance to save lives before something bad happens." Each of the school district's attendance zones will form six teams and participate…

After leading the Chiefs to a 29-1 season this year, Sean Tate will be staying local next year after signing with the mens basketball team at Chattahoochee Technical College in Marietta. The boys basketball head coach at Sequoyah talks to Patch.
Patch: How do you feel about the size of the region this year? Jeremy Adams: It’s unique. Last year we came from a 15-team region, so this is the second straight year we’ve been in a bigger region. It’s made for some interesting matchups with different style teams. That’s always tough to react to. Patch: How do you feel about the number of region games before tournament play? JA: It’s something we voted on as coaches. We just felt like we wanted to make sure at the end of the year we had the best seating possible. We figured the best way to see who the top teams were before the tournament so those teams would have the best opportunity advance to the state tournament. Patch: How do you feel about going undefeated? JA: We try not to think …

Coming off a 10 day layoff with no practice due to weather, the Sequoyah Chiefs had to shake off the rust to keep their unbeaten season intact. It took a solid defensive effort from the senior-led team to provide several transition baskets to get things going for Sequoyah. Although no one really expected much resistance from the Eagles, there was still little room for mistakes after a shaky performance at Johns Creek in the Chiefs last outing. Using a trapping defense, the Chiefs forced 21 turnovers on the night, scoring 50 points directly related to turnovers by South Forsyth. Sequoyah jumped out to a 23-10 first quarter lead, but poor shooting the rest of the first half only resulted in a 9-point advantage at halftime. Sequoyah was a …

For the first time since 1996, the Sequoyah Chiefs are the Deep South Classic Tournament champions. This team took the floor with an air of confidence that comes with a No. 4 ranking and an undefeated record. With a gym full of fans that made the trip and several Brookwood faithful in attendance to watch the Chiefs play for the title, Sequoyah looked to be in control from the opening tip. Even though McIntosh High School earned their spot in the finals, they were no match for the speed, quickness, jumping ability and senior leadership that was about to be unleashed. After a tough game last night against an equally athletic Sandy Creek team, the fourth ranked chiefs were not about to let their goal of a championship slip away. The offense …

It was not the goal the team set for themselves, but after a heartbreaking loss in the semi-finals to Apalachee, the Sequoyah Lady Chiefs easily pulled away from the host school to take the third place game in the Windslinger Holiday Classic. Leading the way was senior guards, Emily Caine who had 14 points and Lisa Mitchell who added 12. Handling the bulk of the work in the paint was sophomore Maggie Hartman who added 9 points and 11 rebounds in the victory. The win improves their record to 5 – 9, but still with a 2 – 1 region record and starting to play to their potential as the region schedule begins in earnest as the new year dawns. Senior Emily Caine was named to the All-Tournament team for Sequoyah. Next up for the Lady Chiefs is a …

In the WingSlinger Classic at East Jackson High School, Sequoyah got out of the gate slowly but roared back with a chance to win in the end. After being outscored 9-3 after one quarter, Sequoyah, missing top rebounder and inside threat, Brittnee Jones due to injury, the senior guard trio of Emily Caine, Lisa Mitchell and Precious Lane picked up the pace on offense to close the gap to 21-18 at halftime. The comeback was complete in fourth with a chance for Sequoyah to win it at the free throw line, but as fate would have it, the Lady Chiefs missed four free throws in the final six seconds to lose 48-47. Sequoyah was led by Caine with 14 points, Mitchell had 12 and Lane added 11 in the loss. The Lady Chiefs return to action tomorrow night …

In their first game in 10 days, Sequoyah had rust. It appeared that anything and everything that could be called against Sequoyah was. In what seemed like a training camp for basketball officials, the more talented and battle tested team prevailed. The first round of the Deep South Classic at Brookwood High School was anything but an easy contest for the No. 4 ranked Sequoyah Chiefs. With 15 fouls called against the Chiefs in the first half to only five for Mountain View, it looked as if the slim four point lead would not be nearly enough to keep the unbeaten streak alive for the team from Hickory Flat. After much discussion between officials as the start of the second half got under way, there was a change in the amount of contact they …
