From the Cherokee County School District:

Holly Springs Elementary School STEM Academy fourth-grader Garrett Holubetz is one of 11 winners statewide of the 2013 First Down for Fitness MVP Award presented by the Atlanta Falcons.

The winners were selected out of more than 62,000 students throughout Georgia who participated in the program.

Garrett will be recognized by the Atlanta Falcons at their game against the Washington Redskins on Dec. 15, 2013 at the Georgia Dome.  He was nominated for the recognition by his PE teacher, Coach Amanda Anderson.

Coach Anderson, in her nomination letter wrote that the reason Garrett is an MVP is more than just his passion for sports and participation in the school’s fitness club.

“The reason he is extraordinary is not that he loves and plays sports and it’s not that he is an active participant in our FIT Club – Garrett has a great personality and a big heart!” Coach Anderson wrote in her nomination letter and went on to tell of his participation in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk for the third consecutive year.  Garrett volunteers at the walk, which raises money to end breast cancer, to cheer on participants and serve them dinner.

The First Down for Fitness program is designed to challenge third- through seventh-grade students throughout the state of Georgia to participate in fitness activities, eat healthy and lead a healthy lifestyle. The program incorporates components of the NFL’s Play 60 initiative, the American Heart Association, and Fuel Up to Play 60 nutrition program available through the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association.
