Cherokee School District Announces Summer School Programs

Students who need to recover credits or who wish to get a jump start academically are eligible to participate in the program.

Although most students feel that the words "school" and "summer" should never be used in the same sentence, the Cherokee County School District is offering summer school programs for students who need to make up failed classes or those who want to earn extra credits.

In-class summer school will be offered at Woodstock High School for all high school students needed initial credits or credit recovery. Courses will be offered based on demand. The sessions will last from June 3-21, from 8 a.m. to noon or from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. each day. Attendance is mandatory for each classroom day. Registration for these classes will be held at Woodstock High School on May 30 from 8 a.m. to noon. The cost for these classes is $200 per half credit.

Online credit recovery will be available at individual high schools, although students from Etowah High School will take their classes at Woodstock High School. Students in this program must maintain perfect attendance until their coursework is complete. Registration for this program is from May 6-22 at each high school, and costs $200 per half unit of credit.

For rising ninth graders, the school district is offering health and/or physical education courses for high school credit. These classes will meet from June 3-21 at either Woodstock or Cherokee high schools. Class will run from 8 a.m. to noon or from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Registration is on May 30 from 8 a.m. to noon at Woodstock High School. These classes cost $200 per half unit of credit.

Eighth graders who failed required core courses for promotion to ninth grade can take advantage of a "bridge" opportunity to pass their required core classes and move on to high school. Each high school will host classes for their respective feeder middle schools, except for Cherokee High School. Ninth graders who will attend Cherokee must go to Teasley Middle School.
