Creekview, Sequoyah Race into Top 10

Both schools' cross-country teams place in the AAAA state meet, while the Grizzly boys also make the top 15.

The girls finished eighth in the state Saturday at the Georgia High School Association’s AAAA cross-country meet in Carrollton, while the Grizzly boys came in 13th.

Meanwhile, the boys finished 10th in the AAAA race by placing five runners in the top 101 even though none of them made the top 35.

Nicole Smith was the top runner for the Lady Grizzlies, placing sixth in the 5K in 19:24.23, about 40 second behind winner Allie Buchalski of fellow Region 7-AAAA school Johns Creek.

Also scoring for the Creekview girls were Lauren Johnson in 17th, Camille Fahrnbauer in 61st, Rachel Dorris in 81st and Rachel Garabedian in 83rd.

With 224 points, Creekview was only six points out of fifth place.

For the boys, Loren Teachey grabbed 10th place for Creekview in 16:38.31, less than 33 seconds behind first place. He was joined by Austin Ryan in 71st, Hunter Carter in 74th, Danny Brewer in 116th and Brennan Garriques in 125.

Sequoyah got points from Alex Woodard in 39th, Patrick James in 47th, Christopher Costa in 72nd, Zach Moore in 94th and Ryan McNeal in 101st.
