Schools Top State on CRCT

Results are in for the state-wide standardized tests that stressed students and teachers alike earlier this year and local schools are in the clear. Find out which local school boosted math scores 6.8 percent to achieve a 84.7 percent success rate.

Students in third, fourth and fifth grade at, , and elementary schools achieved the honor for exceeding the state averages in all five CRCT content areas, the Georgia Department of Education announced.

The CRCT measures third to eighth grade students’ abilities in reading, English/language arts, math, science and social studies.

Students in third, fifth and eighth grade must meet or exceed the grade requirements on the CRCT in reading to advance according to state law. Fifth and eighth grade students also need to meet or exceed expectations on the CRCT in mathematics to move on to the next grade.

Mountain Road Elementary third graders improved their scores from last year in four of the five content areas and posted scores of more than 92 percent in all five areas. Holly Springs third graders raised their math score 6.8 percent to 84.7 percent.

Free Home third grade scores declined in science and social studies by more than 7 percent, with science dipping to 89.1 percent and social studies falling 83.6 percent, respectively.

Mountain Road had a stellar showing in fourth grade also. The students registered better scores in all five content areas, including scores of 98.6 percent in reading, English/language arts and math. They also notched scores of 97.1 percent in science and social studies. The class’ math score improved 13.2 percent.

Avery fourth graders raised their social studies score 11.2 percent to 92 percent. Free Home science scores improved 6.9 percent to 98.2 percent – the highest fourth grade science score in Cherokee County.

Holly Springs fifth grade math scores increased 13.2 percent to 93.8 percent. Avery science students dropped 10.5 percent to 90.4 percent. Free Home scores were better in all five content areas, highlighted by the 10.1 percent jump in reading to 98 percent meeting or exceeding the standard.

Creekland Middle’s sixth graders improved their social studies score by 8.3 percent to 83.2 percent.

Dean Rusk seventh graders improved their social studies score 6.6 percent to 86.2 percent. Creekland's seventh graders posted lower scores in three of five content areas.

Creekland’s eighth grade scores were lower in four of the five areas. Math was the exception for the eighth graders with a 1.5 percent increase to 88.9 percent.
