Petruzielo Named Advocate of the Year

Cherokee County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank Petruzielo was recently honored for his commitment to promoting healthy, active lifestyles in schools.

Petruzielo was named the 2013 Advocate of the Year by the Georgia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. The award was given during the association's convention held last month in Marietta. 

Petruzielo was honored for his support of health, physical education, recreation and/or dance programs in school settings. 

Winners are evaluated on the following criteria: 

• Has demonstrated leadership for health, physical education, recreation and/or dance programming for at least five years; 
• Provides support for program expansion and improvement;
• Encourages and supports professional development within the school that promotes the ideas of the program; 
• Generates employee and student support for the program; and,
• Demonstrates support outside the school (community and/or state level). 

"This recognition is an honor not only for me, but for the entire Cherokee County School District," Petruzielo said in a press release. "Our entire staff, with the leadership shown by our School Board, has made health and physical education and activity a priority for students for we want every student to be prepared for a successful life, as well as a long and healthy life."
