Tammy Castleberry joins the elementary school for the new school year.

Tammy Castleberry, a graduate of , is the new principal at and is a local resident giving back to the community.

Holly Springs Patch caught up with her and asked her a few basic questions that the parents of students at the school would like to know.

Q: What do you feel is the most important change you are making at Macedonia?

A: While I am not sure that it is a “change,” I feel the most important thing that I am trying to promote is a positive school environment among our teachers and students.  When students and teachers enjoy  coming to school, learning becomes fun and engaging and real progress occurs.  While I expect our community to follow the procedures and guidelines in place when visiting the school, I want Macedonia to be a welcoming environment for all stakeholders.  Another change/addition involves the agenda.  All students from kindergarten through fifth grades now have agendas with the student handbook enclosed, reading logs, success maker logs, etc. included in the agenda.  A goal page has been added for students to record their goals for the year.  I want the agenda to be a working tool/document for all students to truly utilize.

Q:What do you think is the most important nonacademic focus that you will have this year?

A:   There is no doubt that bringing Rachel’s Challenge to the school and promoting random acts of kindness and compassion is the most important “nonacademic” focus that I will have this year.

Castleberry elaborated on this in her statement about this program and Patch readers can see this response by reading

Q: What do you want the kids at Macedonia to know about you that will help them get to know you?

A: I want the students at Macedonia to know that first and foremost, I love children. I feel that I have truly been called to be in the education field. I also want them to know that I am a teacher, a mother, and an administrator and know that they will occasionally make mistakes; however, I have high expectations for them as well. I expect them to do the right thing in and out of school. I expect them to always do their best at whatever they attempt to do. I also want them to know that I truly have an “open door” policy.  If they need me, I will be here. Together, we are a team, and together, we can unleash our potential one goal at a time.

Castleberry has made a positive first impression among parents and students alike in the last couple of weeks since school began. Her fun sense of style with her paw print accessories and always smiling face has everyone excited for a great school year.
