Live Updates: Officials Confirm Threat Allegations

Around the close of the school day, administrators sent an email to parents with details about the alleged threats.

In the letter, DRMS Principal Adrian Thomason wrote that the threats were circulated on Facebook and Twitter over the weekend and prompted an investigation.

In that investigation they found no evidence that student had actually intended to bring a weapon to the Hickory Flat school, the email said.

officials released the following statement concerning the alleged threats at Dean Rusk:

On behalf of the Superintendent, this is to advise that CCSD School Police and the administration of Dean Rusk MS have been investigating since Friday allegations that a Dean Rusk MS student made a threat to bring a firearm to school this week.  Appropriate personnel are continuing to conduct interviews; the student alleged to have made the threat withdrew from school this morning.  If any allegations of student misconduct are established during the course of this ongoing investigation, appropriate legal and/or administrative actions will be taken.

As of Monday at 8 a.m., DRMS officials were only talking to parents who had arrived at the school and were not releasing a statement to the public.

One parent who spoke to school administrators posted a Facebook comment stating that they told her the student in question had been dealt with and that the school was under extra security today.
