House Rejects Charter Amendment
The state will not have the power to approve previously rejected charter schools.
Representatives rejected an amendment that would allow the state to approve charter schools, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
The fight at the Capitol has been fierce. In January, Sen. Chip Rogers led a rally on the Capitol steps in support of the charter school amendment, HR 1162.
That rally kicked off a petition that collected 1,121 signatures.

However, the fight was far from one-sided. The Georgia PTA posted against HR 1162 on their website saying that it was "Taxation without representation," "State control of local schools," and a "blank check for the state."
