Holly Springs Pre-K Teacher Completes Safe Start Class
Julia Ledford of Holly Springs Academy participated in the course, which is designed to reduce the number of home fire and burn injuries to preschool children.
From Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services:
Julia Ledford, a teacher at Holly Springs Academy, recently completed the new
program called Safe Start with the students in her pre-k class.
Safe Start is a course developed and funded by Safe Kids Worldwide, its
partners and Safe Kids Cherokee County. The classroom program was
created for children three to six years old to reduce the number of home fire and burn injuries to preschool children, whom are at the greatest risk of injury and death.
The classroom program not only teaches the preschoolers in burn and fire safety, but also includes the parents and extended families of these young children.
According to Sgt. Babette Davis, an educator with Cherokee County Fire and
Emergency Services and a member of Safe Kids Cherokee, the program provides lesson plans, interactive activity opportunities, songs and hands on learning to preschoolers and their parents.
Ledford indicated that 22 children participated in the program and the kids really
enjoyed doing Safe Start. Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services is the
lead agency for Safe Kids Cherokee.
