Grizzlies Finish 6th at Own Tourney

After hundreds of bouts on Friday evening and all day Saturday, the Gilmer Bobcats pulled out well ahead of the pack to take the Creekview Invitational Tournament.

Fourteen schools attended the popular Creekview Invitational Tournament at this weekend. The Grizzlies, who placed second last year, dropped to sixth place this year.

The team, missing graduating seniors and injured veterans, had a fair showing though with freshmen Nick McClendon (195 pounds) taking third place and Nate Bridges (113) taking fourth. Also placing were:

  • Michael Edwards (132) at sixth place
  • John Cowart (145) at fourth place
  • Justin Pettyjohn (160) at third place
  • Hunter Udall (170) at fourth place
  • Joseph Sorrentino (182) at first place and 182-pound tournament champion.

Gilmer dominated the championship round with seven wrestlers and three tournament champions. Joseph Sorrentino (182) was determined to prevent a fourth champion and quickly defeated Gilmer's Jared Sweat (182) with a pin early in the second period.
