Cherokee Schools Auditor Gives Presentation Tonight

Auditors from Mauldin & Jenkins will appear before the school board tonight to answer questions concerning the fiscal year 2011 audit.

The long awaited presentation from a firm to discuss the Cherokee County School District's fiscal year 2011 audit will be held tonight.

Auditors from Mauldin & Jenkins will be on hand to discuss the audit with the board during its meeting tonight, which starts at 7 p.m. at the historic Canton High School/School Board Auditorium.

Questions surrounding the fiscal year 2011 audit — which received an unqualified (or clean) opinion by Mauldin & Jenkins – originated from District 1 member Kelly Marlow, who told officials and the public she had seven pages of questions she compiled with advisors from the community. Marlow has not not shared those questions with other board members, district staff members or members of the press.

Before its meeting, the board will hold a work session, which will get underway at 6 p.m. Board members will outline their 2014-15 budget priorities, discuss the 2014 legislative session and hear an update on the district's capital outlay projects.

During its meeting, the board will review a proposal to revise itsagenda policy. The revisions would require any documents "related to a formal motion that are presented during a board meeting by the superintendent shall be published as attachments to the agenda that is archived on the school district website."
