BOE: Chapman's Letter Crossed a Line
Board members said the letter from Mike Chapman to Gov. Nathan Deal shouldn't have been written on school board stationery
The voted 4-3 Wednesday night to ratify comments made by their board chairman in and members of an school accreditation organization.
Board Chairman Mike Chapman asked the board to add the motion to the agenda following discussion on whether he should have used board stationery to send personal thoughtsregarding redistricting and the to have the board chair position be an elected position.
The vote followed a lengthy discussion, during which board member Rob Usher said he was fine with Chapman's comments but didn't appreciate Chapman using the letterhead, which could be seen as his personal comments being official board position.

“I'm all for it, it's part of being an American,” Usher said. “But using the stationery, that crossed a line.”
Prior to the discussion, board member Janet Read asked if the board would reconsider . Read said there had been talk that the vote needed to be unanimous. The board's vote had been 5-2, and board members said they were not interested in revisiting the vote.

The board also took time out Wednesday to recognize the county's numerous impending retirees, champions and award winners.
Principal Robert Eddy received a standing ovation following the announcement of his retirement following 30 years of educational service. Superintendent of Schools Frank Petruzielo said he was sad to see Eddy and others from the high school leave, but that the new batch of administrators taking their place would continue the work started by their predecessors.
“We know you will do an exceptional job of continuing the traditions at Creekview,” Petruzielo said. “Congratulations.”
The board also:

Adopted a proposed resolution regarding class size exemptions giving the board flexibility in determining class size;

Approved the January 2012 financial report;

Voted to allot $560 for two teachers to travel out-of-state for conferences;

Approved out-of-state and overnight trips;

Approved a Capital Outlay Projects update;
Approved personnel recommendations;
And approved a special lease agreement for school buildings.
