Around the Halls: Cherokee Schools Meet AYP

Creekland and Sequoyah announce student honors while all Hickory Flat and Holly Springs schools meet their Annual Yearly Progress standards.

An updated AYP report on the Department of Education website shows that three schools in Holly Springs and Hickory Flat have now met AYP standards. 

The schools had to meet all four components set by the Department of Education to measure Annual Yearly Progress: participation, academic performance, test participation and a second indicator. 

,   and  all fell short of the requirements set by the state for Adequate Yearly Progress.

The federal No Child Left Behind Act requires schools to show academic improvement by meeting AYP each year. Schools that fall short year after year face consequences such as providing free outside tutoring to children and allowing them to transfer.

Congratulations to Jade Leffingwell, Matthew Schmid, Emmanuel Zarate, Eryn Hasty, Cassandra Hankins, Nikki Shotz, Austin Griffiin, Carsen Vereen, Abby Kirday, Allyson Mauldin, Kiersten Castleberry, Jenna Phillips, Stephani Flores, Michael Stapor and Anna Knowlton.

recognized 38 school winners from the National PTA Reflections contest. They will advance to the Cherokee County competition.
