WellStar's Health Park, Hospital Tops Holly Springs Agenda

The Holly Springs City Council will review WellStar's plans to develop in the city during its work session tonight.

The Holly Springs City Council will formally get a first-hand look at what WellStar Health System wants to develop along Sixes Road during its work session tonight.

The council's work session begins at 7 p.m. at the Holly Springs Municipal Court chambers.

WellStar has petitioned the city to rezone about 62 acres at the southwest corner of Sixes Road at Interstate 575 from general commercial and mixed use to entirely general commercial. It also requested to obtain a conditional use permit to operate an institution similar to a hospital and a hospice facility or personal care home.

Last week, the Holly Springs Planning and Zoning Commission on Thursday voted to recommend approval of both of the company's requests. Among its several stipulations, the commission said a free-standing emergency department could be allowed on the property only if it's attached to the proposed hospital.

If the company gets the city's stamp of approval and if they are able to purchase the land, it would like to start construction on a health park within the year, said WellStar spokesperson Keith Bowermaster.

Bowermaster also said the health park would be about 100,000 square-feet, cost around $38 million and create around 120 new jobs.

The council will also review a request to annex and rezone 2.04 acres 3095 Marble Quarry Road from office & institutional in Cherokee County to general commercial.

The Planning and Zoning Commission last month recommended approval to annex the property, but recommended denial to rezone the property, which the applicant wants to use for a grocery store.
