Safety improvements could soon come to state routes 20 and 140 in Cherokee County.
The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded a contract to Marietta-based Baldwin Paving Co., Inc. in the amount of $4.1 million.
The work include improving signage and pavement markings and guardrail and edge line/centerline rumble strip installations throughout various locations along both highways.
Highway 140 stretches northwest of Waleska and runs southeast through Canton, Hickory Flat and areas just east of Woodstock before crossing into Milton. Highway 20 stretches from western Cherokee County and cuts across Canton, Macedonia and Free Home before entering Forsyth County.
The components of this project were based on a safety study that examined both corridors in Cherokee, GDOT said in a release on Monday.
The project is set to be complete by June 2014 and GDOT will provide information on lane closures and construction before work begins.
