Special Election To Replace Calvin Hill Set for Jan. 7

Gov. Nathan Deal on Saturday issued an executive order designating Jan. 7, 2014, as the special election.

A special election will be held in less than 2 months to fill the seat of Calvin Hill, who passed away on Oct. 30 after a battle with leukemia.

Governor Nathan Deal in an executive order has designed Tuesday, January 7, 2014, as the date in which a special election will be held to fill House District 22 seat.

No qualifying dates have been set so far by the Georgia Secretary of State's Office.

At least three residents have announced their intentions to run for the seat: Canton attorney Nate Cochran, Creekview High School teacher Meagan Biello and former Cherokee County Republican Party Chair Jeff Duncan.

Hill died after serving in the Georgia House of Representatives since 2002. He was the longest serving state legislator in the Cherokee County legislative delegation.
