Sequoyah Library System Wants Money From Holly Springs

The Holly Springs City Council has been asked to become funding agent for the Sequoyah Regional Library System.

The Cherokee County Library Board of Trustees has asked the city of Holly Springs to contribute money to its operations.

The Holly Springs City Council on Monday reviewed a request from Susan White, director of the the Sequoyah Regional Library System, for the city to consider contributing $4,000 to the system, which would make the city a funding agent for the library system.

White in her letter to the city notes the cities of Ball Ground, Waleska, Canton and Woodstock all are "regular funding agencies" for the system, which serves Cherokee, Pickens and Gilmer Counties.

The Cherokee Board of Trustees — made up of 10 individuals from unincorporated Cherokee and the cities of Ball Ground, Canton, Woodstock and Waleska — serves as an advisory panel to the Sequoyah Regional Library Board of Trustees.

White added Holly Springs' assistance would be "extremely helpful" in the system's efforts to best serve the public.

The council reviewed the request during its work session on Monday and is slated to consider to approve or deny the request during its April 15 meeting.
