Holly Springs resident Scot Turner announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for the newly configured 21st district in the State House of Representatives.

Turner focuses his campaign platform on eliminating practice of lobbyists giving gifts with no cap on their value to legislators.
"It's now apparent that if the people want to change this policy, that the people will have to have choices in candidates if we are going to put a stop to influence peddling in Georgia," Turner said in a release.
Turner pledged to never accept a gift from a lobbyist or to accept campaign contributions from lobbyists or PACs.
On his Facebook page, Turner writes that gifts from lobbyists influence candidates:
“As one sifts through lobbyist expenditure disclosures they become more and more shocked by what they see. Cigars. Bottles of wine. Trips to Europe. Lunches. Extravagant dinners. Football tickets. Hunting trips. In fact, the disclosures read like a menu of good times, and at their heart they all share a common purpose; to sway the opinion of the people that represent us as citizens.”
Turner will kick off his campaign with an event at the on Jan. 23 at 7 p.m.
