Former Cherokee Sheriff's Office Spokesperson To Run For Senate

A Woodstock resident and former spokesperson for the Cherokee Sheriff's Office has tossed her hat into the ring become the county's newest state senator.

Nicole Ebbeskotte, the former public information officer with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office, has announced her intentions to qualify for the Georgia Senate District 14 seat, which was vacated last month by Barry Loudermilk. 

Loudermilk is running to succeed Phil Gingrey in the U.S. House of Representatives' District 11 seat in Georgia. 

Ebbeskotte, a 12-year resident of Cherokee County, worked in the sheriff's office for seven years. In 2008, she challenged Cherokee County Sheriff Roger Garrison for the Republican primary for the seat, but lost the bid. 

Ebbeskotte has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in conflict management. 

She has served on the Cherokee Leadership steering committee as well as the board of directors for the Malon D. Mimms Boys and Girls Club. 

Ebbeskotte, who is employed as an executive for a local property management company, also plays a role in many community activities and is a certified mediator and arbitrator. 

"I have always enjoyed serving the citizens of Cherokee County," she said. "Now I want to broaden my service to the next level by representing the people in Senate District 14."

Qualifying for the race starts on Monday and will continue through Wednesday at the Georgia Secretary of State's Elections Division office.
