City to Discuss Motorcycle Purchase, Cleaning up Codes

The city could spend nearly $20,000 on a new motorcycle and its equipment, which would go to the police department.

The Holly Springs City Council will look at purchasing some new equipment for the police department and clean up or remove the language of the city's official code during their Monday evening meeting.
The city could acquire a Harley-Davidson Electra Glide motorcycle for the Holly Springs Police Department at a cost of $14,635, said City Manager Rob Logan. The emergency equipment package needed to use the motorcycle in a law enforcement role will cost another $4,624. The total cost is anticipated to be $19,259.
Additionally, the city will look at the language of several portions of the Official Code of the City of Holly Springs.
The city will discuss repealing Article II of Chapter 78, which deals with the city's water authority. Seeing as the city's water authority has been replaced by Cherokee County, this section is no longer needed and will be deleted.
Article III of Chapter 22, which deals with the regulation of auctions, may also be on the chopping block. Logan said that in discussions with the city attorney, officials determined that it is no longer desirable for the city to regulate auctions.
Finally, the city council will examine the verbiage of the stormwater fee credit manual. Logan said that "it's been a while" since the city went through the credit manual, and wants to do some housecleaning on the language within.
The city council is also expected to discuss renewing Holly Springs' five-year fire and emergency services agreement with Cherokee County.
The work session will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at the Holly Springs Municipal Court chambers.
