City Council Will Talk Guns, Chickens

The Holly Springs City Council could be two weeks away from a resolution officially encouraging citizens to own guns.

The Holly Springs City Council might publicly announce support for the Second Amendment and make a ruling on backyard chickens during their work session Monday evening.

Last month, Patch told you about the possible resolution that would encourage residents of Holly Springs to keep and bear arms. The proposed law for Holly Springs would not go as far as some Georgia cities, such as Kennesaw, which require firearm ownership.

The city council will not vote on this resolution until its next regular meeting, which will be held on Aug. 19

Mayor Timothy Downing will lead a discussion on the resolution during Monday's work session, which begins at 7 p.m. at the Holly Springs Municipal Complex.

Community Development Director Nancy Moon will speak to the council about a proposal that would allow Holly Springs residents to raise chickens on property less than two acres in size.

On July 25, Moon spoke to Patch about the "backyard chickens" ordinance on the eve of its introduction to the city's Planning and Zoning Commission.

Please see the attached agenda for the complete itinerary for Monday evening's meeting.
