Three Vehicles, Including Fire Truck, Wreck in Canton

Two people were injured in the accident at Hickory Flat Highway and Newton Fowler Lane

CORRECTION: Croft has been taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, not Northside Hospital-Cherokee, where Clanton was taken.

Two people were injured in a three-car accident that involved a Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services fire truck in Canton on Thursday afternoon, authorities say.

According to a Cherokee Sheriff's Office press release, Shayla Croft, 20, of Canton was stopped on westbound Hickory Flat Highway while attempting to turn left on to Newton Fowler Lane at roughly 12:11 p.m. The initial investigation indicates that Ronald Clanton, 36, of Canton was also traveling on westbound Hickory Flat Highway and rear-ended Croft's Honda Accord.

The collision caused Croft's vehicle to travel into the opposing lane of traffic, where it was struck by the fire truck. No firefighters were injured in the collision.

Both Croft and Clanton have been taken to Northside Hospital-Cherokee; Croft was lifeflighted to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Clanton's injuries are non-life threatening.

No charges have been filed in the accident.

I believe you read his comment wrong. He in no way said it was her fault. He made a very common sense suggestion to hopefully protect others from having this happen to them when idiots rear end you.

It is sad that people read stories and see where a person is life flighted and have "non- life threatening injuries" and assume they are okay. Having to live with spinal cord injury myself, I can say that there can be worse things things than death and living with cord injuries is not okay. I pray this young woman recovers from her injuries and in time WILL BE okay.

I apologize if my comment came as rude. I was in a mood from feeling helpless to Shayla at the hospital. I just hope justice is served. I lobe Shayla like a sister.
