Boy, 14, Hit by Car While Riding Bike

A boy, 14, was riding his bike along Toonigh Road when a car traveling in the same direction hit him Wednesday night.

A teenager riding his bike on Toonigh Road was hit by a car Wednesday night.

The accident occurred along Toonigh Road near Holly Springs Road just outside the city of Holly Springs, according to the Cherokee Sheriff's Office.

The boy, 14, was riding his bicycle on the road when he swerved into the path of the car, which was trying to pass the bicycle as they were traveling in the same direction.

Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office said the child was "seriously injured" and was transported to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.Β 

"Although serious, his injuries do not appear to be life threatening," he added. The boy lives near the scene of the accident and his name is not being released.Β

The sheriff's office's Traffic Enforcement Unit continues to investigate the accident, but preliminary results indicate the child was at fault and "there will not likely be any charges related to the accident," Baker said.Β
