The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of state probation officers, conducted its bi-annual verification of sex offenders living in Cherokee County Wednesday night.
Deputies and probation officers were able to verify that 170 of the 210 sex offenders living in the county were complying with residency restrictions of the Georgia Sex Offender Registry, the agency said in a press release on Thursday.
The remaining 40 sex offenders will be verified in coming days by sheriff's office uniform patrol deputies.
One registered sex offender was arrested during the operation.
Jeremy Gunter, 19 of Holly Springs, was charged with probation violation for being out past his curfew. Gunter remains in custody at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center without bond.
