Police Department Accepting Applications for Citizen's Police Academy

Applications will be accepted until Aug. 23 for the courses on citizen/law enforcement cooperation.

The Holly Springs Police Department will host its next Citizen's Police Academy in September, and wants you to be a part of it.

According to the city's website, the department will take applications from interested residents until Friday, Aug. 23.

The Citizen's Police Academy is a series of six sessions that stresses ways that citizens and law enforcement can work together to create a safer city. The sessions explore topics such as the history of law enforcement in the United States, the structure of the department's various divisions, and will include presentations from the K9 Unit and Bike Patrol Team.

Citizens will also be given the opportunity to sign up for a four-hour ride along with a Holly Springs police officer during the academy sessions.

The class is limited to 18 people and slots will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and consent to a background check. Holly Springs residents will be given priority over residents of other areas.

The sessions will begin on Monday, Sept. 9 at 6:30 p.m. and run until Monday, Nov. 4. The date and times of the six sessions are as follows:

  • Monday, Sept. 9 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm
  • Monday, Sept. 16 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm
  • Monday, Sept. 30 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm
  • Monday, Oct. 14 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm
  • Saturday, Oct. 26 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
  • Monday, Nov. 4 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm
"First and foremost, the Citizens' Police Academy is a reminder to all of us in law enforcement that we are our brother's keeper," said Holly Springs Police Officer Greg Bettis.

"We think the academy serves as a great reminder that the security of our neighbors and our homes are all our responsibilities. All of us in the community are serving each other, we think it's important for all of us to reinvest ourselves in each others' safety."
