Kelly Marlow, Associates Will Be Sentenced Today
Marlow, Robert Trim and Barbara Knowles will be sentenced Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in Cherokee County Superior Court.
Former Cherokee County School Board member Kelly Marlow and two associates are expected to be sentenced today after they were convicted of lying to police when they accused Superintendent Dr. Frank Petruzielo of trying to run them over last summer.
Marlow, along with political consultant Robert Trim and Woodstock resident Barbara Knowles, will all learn their fate today at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 2A in Cherokee County Superior Court.
Marlow was convicted on two counts of making false statements, both of which are felonies. Trim, was found guilty on two counts of making false statements while Knowles, the former secretary of the Cherokee County Republican Party, was convicted on one count of filing a false police report and two counts of making false statements.
The felony conviction required Marlow to be suspended from the District 1 seat she's held since Jan. 1, 2013. However, Marlow on Wednesday resigned from office.
The resignation now forces the Cherokee County School Board to call a special election to fill Marlow's unexpired term, which ends on Dec. 31 2016.
Making false statements is punishable by up to 5 years in prison, so Marlow is looking at a sentence that could be as high as 10 years. Filing a false police report is punishable by up to 12 months in prison.
