Holly Springs Police Officer, Wife Flying Home Tonight

Holly Springs Police Officer Shane Ladner and wife Meg Ladner, , were scheduled to leave the Lone Star State today about 4 p.m. 

The two, set to fly back to Georgia, will land at Peachtree-DeKalb Airport and Meg Ladner, whose leg was amputated, will be transported to Atlanta Medical Center, said Holly Springs police spokesman Lt. Tanya Anderson. "We expect her to be at Atlanta Medical by 8 or 9 p.m.," Anderson added. "I have no updates on condition, prognosis, how long they expect to be at Atlanta [Medical], etc."

Officer Ladner was treated for back injuries he received in the accident as one of 25 veterans participating in the annual "Hunt for Heroes" event coordinated by Show of Support. 

Ladner was chosen by the nonprofit organization to participate in the event and was also recognized for his military service after he was wounded in combat while on duty in Iraq. 

A veteran of the United States Army, he was wounded twice in combat, for which he was recognized with awards for valor. His injuries eventually forced him to retire from active duty service in the Army. 

Ladner has been served in law enforcement since 2005. He has been employed with the Holly Springs Police Department for three years.
