Flood Waters Wash Out Road in Free Home

Portions of Glenn Wilkie Trail were damaged by rushing waters Sunday morning.

A road in the Free Home community has been shut down after flooding washed out almost half of the road's surface.

According to Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services, the agency responded to a 911 call on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. regarding damage to Glenn Wilkie Trail, which is located off of Highway 372.

Battalion Chief Dan Flood said that two to three feet of the road had been washed away when they arrived. As the day progressed, more dirt under the roadway collapsed, which caused half of the road to be destroyed.
