Coach Arrested on Child Porn Charges

A Cherokee County father is accused of having illegal images on his computer, but his wife says he didn't download them.

After a Patch reader saw Michael Stinson's photo in the Cherokee County Mug Shots and recognized him from Cherokee Youth Basketball, details have emerged about child pornography found in his home.

Stinson, 47, of Woodstock, was arrested May 3 and charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of children.

A search warrant was executed at his home, and child porn images were located on his computer, said Lt. Jay Baker with the .

Stinson was released May 4 on a $12,000 bond, Baker said.

Stinson’s wife, Kim, a PTSA vice president at this year, said that after her husband’s arrest, one of her children admitted to accessing the images.

“It’s very unfortunates that my poor husband was arrested because the downloads were on his computer,” she said.

But Baker said it’s not that simple.

“The ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) investigators have evidence that directly links Michael Stinson to the illegal images on his computer. That evidence will be presented in a court of law in due time,” he said in an email.

Directors from Cherokee Youth Basketball declined to comment on the arrest.
