On Monday, school officials remained tight-lipped throughout most of the day after rumors spread over Facebook and Twitter that a student threatened to bring a firearm to school and shoot students.
Around 3 p.m. on Monday, the school sent home a letter stating that they were investigating the threats. Then in Thursday's letter, Principal Adrian Thomason said the investigation led to an arrest and detention.

According to the letter, the student has withdrawn from Dean Rusk and is not enrolled in any other Cherokee County school.
