Allatoona Lake Accident Sends Two to Hospital

One man had to be cut free from the boat, which wrecked near Little River Marina.

Two men are at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta after being involved in a serious boat accident on Allatoona Lake Saturday evening.

According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Rangers responded to a call from the Cherokee County 911 Center about a boat crash in the Little River area at 7:38 p.m. Saturday.

According to the initial reports, the boat had hit the shore and trees on the bank west of the Little River Marina. The 911 center also said that a man was trapped inside the now sinking boat.

Rangers responded to the scene and were joined by the Cherokee Sheriff's Office and Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services.

Rescuers discovered two men badly injured inside an 18 foot Crownline pleasure boat. One man had to be cut free from the driver's position. Authorities discovered the boat's throttle was fully open.

The two men were taken to the hospital by Cherokee EMS, and both are expected to survive.

The DNR's Critical Incident Reconstruction Team is investigating the cause of the accident.
