Acworth-Area Woman Charged with Manslaughter

An unsupervised party and underage alcohol consumption led to the stabbing death of one man and charges against three people.

Margarit Matteson, 50, has been indicted in Cherokee County on charges of involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct stemming from a May 2010 slaying at her home.

According to the indictment, Matteson is the mother of Robert Napolean Matteson, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter this month.

Margarit Matteson is accused of buying alcohol for her underage son and his underage, live-in girlfriend, Sapphire Foster, then neglecting to supervise the party that broke out in her home in the 6800 block of Galts Ferry Road.

According to the AJC, Robert Matteson was 19 at the time of the incident and Foster was 18.

Robert Matteson and Chris Sanchez got into a fight during the party, and Matteson fatally stabbed Sanchez.

Matteson pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, tampering with evidence and possessing a knife during the commission of a felony. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison and is eligible for parole in 10 years.

Β His mother was also indicted on a charge of maintaining a disorderly household. She pleaded not guilty to all charges April 13.

Β Foster was charged with involuntary manslaughter, hindering the apprehension or punishment of a criminal, tampering with evidence, disorderly conduct, underage possession of alcohol, furnishing alcohol to underage people and simple battery. She also pleaded not guilty this month.

Both Foster and Margarit Matteson are out on bail.Β
