7 Arrested for DUI

No injuries were reported in connection with impaired driving in Cherokee County New Year's weekend.

Four of those arrests were on New Year's Eve until 4 a.m. on New Year's Day. An additional three were arrested on New Year's Day, Baker said.

There were no injuries reported, Baker said.

This is after a state-wide project to reduce to tell partiers how to safely get home.

Other parts of the Atlanta area were not as safe.

A driver was arrested after hitting a child Sunday when he was leaving the Falcons’ game. He was charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The 5-year-old boy is in stable condition.

Year round there is a zero tolerance policy for drivers caught having a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or more, according to the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

In 2011, Georgia noticed an 11 percent decrease in the total fatal accidents caused by impaired drivers.

Also in 2011, troopers arrested 95 people for driving under the influence during the 78-hour holiday period, according to a Georgia State Patrol press release.
