Sequoyah's 'Coach Z' Dies in Cumming

A former Sequoyah coach asked that donations be made for a scholarship in lieu of flowers.

Paul George Zarynoff, 76, of Cumming died on August 6.

Zarynoff, known as "Coach Z” had over 48 years of football coaching experience including 11 years at

Zarynoff restarted the Milton High School middle school football program and he started the Centennial High School middle school program and Pop Warner Football in Forsyth County.

He has also coached youth football at Northeast High School, North DeKalb High School, the Atlanta Colts, and

In 2007, he was inducted into the Southern Football League Hall of Fame in 2007, and he was inducted into the North Georgia Football League Hall of Fame in 2008.  

The NGFL is a Georgia middle school football program comprised of 32 High Schools, in Fulton, Cherokee, Cobb, and Douglas Counties. 

Zarynoff was predeceased by his parents, George and Margaret Zarynoff; and brother, Sergay George Zarynoff.

Zarynoff served in the US Army as an Intelligence Officer – receiving many medals and commendations to include Medal of Honor, Army and Navy Commendation, Bronze Star Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. After his active duty, he worked as a Litigation and Security Consultant until retirement.  

He is survived by his wife, Kay N. Allred of Cumming; son, George Paul Zarynoff of Atlanta; son, Mark and Peggy Zarynoff of Cumming; daughter, Donya and Tim Manoville of New Jersey; grandchildren, Zachary, Abigail, Claire, and Libby; and his Golden Retriever companion, Garrett.  He also leaves behind many friends to include the Brethren of his Quaffers Group who played golf annually for over 30 years. 

At the Semi - Pro football level, he was head coach of the Atlanta Cowboys, Georgia Pride and Georgia Buccaneers.
