Sequoyah Alum, U.S. Marine Dies

James Scott MacKenzie died Thursday. Friends of the family are asking residents to post an American flag along the funeral route to show support.

James Scott MacKenzie, 26, of Canton died Thursday, Sept. 29. MacKenzie was a Marine veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, in which he received a Purple Heart, and a member of Wounded Warriors.

The funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the . Interment will follow in the .

Several friends of the family have asked that residents show their support by flying American flags along the route of the funeral procession on Monday morning.Β

The funeral procession will leave the Church of the Messiah on Batesville Road at 11:50 a.m. and get to the cemetery by taking Highway 140 toward Canton, turning on Univeter Road and then onto Highway 20, according to an email from friends of the MacKenzie family.Β 

Scott MacKenzie's survivors include his parents, Robert and Nan MacKenzie of Canton; a sister, Savannah MacKenzie of Canton; grandparents Jim andΒ and Madeline Oric of Chattanooga, TN; and an aunt, Janet Oric of Lynchburg, TN.

A memorial Facebook page has been set up for MacKenzie.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Scott MacKenzie Fund c/o Church of the Messiah, 415 Charles Cox Dr., Canton, GA 30115.
