Do You Need a Break Through in Your Business?

This weekend something happened that I want to share with all of you. I want to share this because I know in business that I am not the only one to have hit “the wall”. We all hit it at some point or another, some of us can push on through while others of us will just turn around and walk a different direction. So if you don’t mind, I am going to get a little personal and share with you some things then turn around and wrap it up with how it relates to business. There may be a service pitch in there as well, but it just comes with my natural sales thought processes. lol Either way, from time to time we all need a break through in our life, business and personal.

What I had this weekend was a personal break through and I was able to conquer my biggest adversary, me. For those of you who have never had this thought before, let me lay this thought on you. The person in your life that is your biggest help or hurt is you. Your mind and body either works for you, with you or against you. My mind is awesome at doing all three and is exceptionally talented at working against me. Your brain, unless you have conquered it already, will work against you with negative thoughts and tell you that you can’t do things. The question is why?

Ok, to keep this short I won’t go into the brain studies and thought studies that I have read. We all learn at some point in our life to set limitations, the problem is that a lot of times these limitations are well below what we can actually handle and do. We are all amazing people that can accomplish fantastic things, it just boils down to how much we choose to push ourselves.

For those of you who don’t know me personally, I love trail running. Now let me preface that by saying I am not a runner. I do this combo run/walk/jog, so a lot of times I just say I am going to a “Wog”, if I throw a little running in there then I feel happy about it. This weekend was the first trail run I have been able to do in months because of the weather. I do have a training plan and was using that plan to make sure I did as much jogging as walking. In order to explain the story properly lets just say that I alternate between walking for a set distance and then running/jogging for a set distance. Needless to say the walking is a lot easier than the jogging, did I mention this is all on trails? Did I also mention there are a lot of hills? Ok now that we have that all established…

The first jog is the easiest, I am good and warmed up, I find my happy speed and then just go at it. The 2nd jog, not so much, this is where I am already a little tired and my body and mind starts saying “walk a little more, it will be ok”. Why does my mind and body say that? Because it is hard, that 2nd run is HARD, especially since it starts on an uphill point! When I first started doing these, the first run was hard, but it still is never as hard as that 2nd run. It is hard, your body hurts and starts making up reasons to not run again. Your mind knows that running is good for you, but it still works against you finding reasons not to do something that it knows is good for you. How crazy is that? This is called hitting the wall, because everything says to stop doing whatever it is.

This happens in business all the time when we run out of momentum and steam to keep going. This weekend I stopped jogging about 1 minute into my 2nd jog, I stopped because my body and mind were lying to me saying that I couldn’t do it. But inside I knew that I could and I got mad after 3 steps of walking. I was so mad that I knew I could do better and had just stopped. Now here is the difference that came into play… I talked to myself. Its not just for crazy people, it is a great tool for boosting yourself. I told myself that I knew I could do better and that we were about to do better, so what did I do? I started running again, while my body and my mind still told me to stop. I said NO! I am going to push through this because I know this is just a wall that I am hitting and just past that wall is where it all falls into place and into balance. So I sped up, I went against everything telling me to stop and I pushed harder.

Guess what happened next?

I didn’t fall, I didn’t pass out, I didn’t hurt myself, what happened was that my body and mind came together in that moment and did something amazing. It synchronized itself to start functioning like it should, working with me and for me, pushing me towards my goal.

Think about that in your business life! Think about how many times we get discouraged and stop. Think about all the people outside of us that tell us we shouldn’t keep going. We know what our goal is, we know that just passed this wall is where we need to be. How many times do we just stop? How much further past that wall is our goal? In that moment that everything fell into place my mind and body synchronized I knew something powerful just happened to me. The same can happen in your life when you just push a little further and a little bit harder when you hit that wall.

What happened to me was that the 3rd, 4th and 5th leg of my jog was easier each time even though I was much more tired. Why was it easier? Because I had conquered the thoughts that had kept me from pushing through. I conquered me! You may need to do the same thing in your life, you may need to conquer YOU!

Those thoughts telling you that you can’t do something, when deep inside you can. Those pains in business that you can’t meet something, when deep inside you know you can. You know you can do better and you have done better, but you make a decision to stop because of the pain. I say PUSH through it! Get mad at yourself if you need to! Talk out loud to yourself and say I CAN DO THIS! Yell it at the top of your lungs if you want.

Now I am going to suggest that you talk to yourself when it is ok and not in a mall.  Although if I hear you in a mall or crowded area screaming “I CAN DO THIS!” You will probably get a “YES YOU CAN” from me, but I like talking to strangers.

We all need a break through in our life and in our business. Sometimes it comes from just hiring someone to help us part time or outsourcing something that we need help with. Or sometimes it just comes from simply conquering yourself. Conquer your mind and body to make it work for and with you. Stop working against yourself and start pushing yourself.

I know this was a little long and I hope that you have stuck with it until this part. We may not know each other, we may have never met, but inside of each one of us is the ability to conquer ourselves in order to reach our goals. This was an amazing experience for me and I am able to look at my decisions a little different because of it. I hope that this opens your mind up to a different thought where you can have your own personal break through in your life. Even if it is on the personal side, happiness in your personal life can become contagious in your business life. How many new clients can you acquire if you just pushed a little bit harder while being happy about it?

Thanks for taking the time to read this and when you have your breakthrough I want you to come share it with me. Maybe you have already had one, share that as well!

For now, let me leave you with my upcoming speaking engagements.
