State House District 22 Candidates Headed for Special Election Runoff

The run-off is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 4.

Two candidates vying for the State House District 22 seat in Tuesday's special election are headed for a runoff.

Republicans Sam Moore of Ball Ground and Meagan Biello of Canton were the top two vote getters. More Cherokee County voters turned out at the polls than those in Forsyth and Fulton counties.

Cherokee logged 2,098, while Forsyth and Fulton saw 278 and 57 votes, respectively, according to the Georgia Secretary of State.

Moore, a business owner, got 924, or 37.98 percent, of those votes, while 576, or 23.67 percent, went to Biello, a teacher at Creekview High School. The two will face each other again in the special election runoff set for April 15.

Contenders Jeff Duncan and Nate Cochran garnered 574 votes, or 23.59 percent, and 359 votes, or 14.76 percent, respectively, according to the Secretary of State.

By two votes, Biello topped Duncan in the special election to fill the seat vacated by Cherokee State Rep. Calvin Hill of Hickory Flat, who passed away after a battle with leukemia.

Provisional ballots are not counted in the unofficial results.

State House District 22 covers a larger portion of east Cherokee County and smaller portions of west Forsyth and north Fulton counties
