Taxes Due, Testing Begins

So begins another week and another chance to pack everything we can into 168 hours.

1. According to the National Weather Service, today will be mostly sunny with a high around 81 degrees.

2. Elementary Schools are serving mini sliders or grilled cheese with baked beans, carrots and dip, and fresh fruit. Middle schools are serving beef tenders with gravy dip, yeast roll, garden peas and rice pilaf. High schools are serving baked fiesta sticks with refried beans, seasoned corn, lettuce and tomato.

3. Both federal and state taxes are due today. The closest post office that will be staying open late is at 10719 Alpharetta Highway in Roswell. That location will be open until 7 p.m. If you get off work late and miss that 6 p.m. closing time for Cherokee County locations, head to Roswell and make the 12 p.m. deadline. The post office at 4455 Lower Roswell Road in Marietta will also be open until 7 p.m. and the post office at 3900 Crown Road in Atlanta will stay open until 11:59 p.m.

4. Third through sixth graders will be taking the Georgia Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests (GCRCT) this week. According to the website, today is the reading test. The school websites also stress the importance of getting to school on time this week for these students. Students who are not in class when the test begins will not be able to enter the classroom until it is over.  Also, this website has practice tests for students who may be nervous or need extra preparation.

5. The meets tonight to discuss the new ordinance for future teen clubs and the possibility of a "Hydro-Chem Day" in Holly Springs. Patch will be there live blogging, so you don't have to wait to find out what a "Hydro-Chem Day" would entail.
