Read Across America Day

Here are the five things you need to know on March 2.

1. According to the National Weather Service, today should be sunny with a high around 67 degrees.

2. Elementary schools are serving mandarin orange chicken or teriyaki nuggets, steamed rice, steamed veggies, garden salad, peaches and a cookie. Middle schools are serving Italian meat sauce, cheese toast, steamed broccoli and garden salad. High schools are serving soup, grilled cheese, carrots and ranch dip and Saltine crackers.

4. l men’s basketball team tonight at 7 p.m. in the War Lodge. Be sure to get there early as seats are expected to fill up fast.

5. On this day in 1836, Texas declared its independence from Mexico. On March 2, 1917, the US gained Puerto Rico.
